3.1 Description. The back-rip scarifier assemblies shall each con-
sist of one housing, one shank, and one tooth. The assembly shall be
for mounting on the back side of moldboards of straight-blade and semi-
U dozers or "C" frames of angledozers so that ripping or scarifier
action is accomplished when the tractor-dozer unit is backing up with
the blade dragging on the ground. On straight-blade and semi-U dozers,
scarifier housings shall bolt onto brackets mounted on the back side
of the moldboard. The tooth shank shall be hinged so that it can
float freely over the ground when the tractor is blading forward. The
shank shall be retractable into the housing, and a locking device shall
be furnished to hold the shank assembly rigidly above the lower edge
of the blade. When in the ripping position, the scarifier assembly
shall permit a ripping depth below the blade not less than that speci-
fied in table I for the size specified.
