3.2 First article.
3.2.1 Preproduction model. The supplier shall furnish a scarifier
assembly within the time - specified to prove, prior to starting
production, that his production methods will produce scarifier assem-
blies that comply with the requirements of this specification. Ex-
amination and test shall be those specified in section 4 and shall be
subject to surveilance and approval by the Government (see 6.3).
3.3 Material. Material shall be as specified herein. Material
not specified shall be selected by the supplier and shall be subject
to all provisions of this specification.
3.4 Temperature conditions. The scarifier assembly shall perform
as specified herein, without damage or permanent defamation in any

ambient temperature from plus 125 F. to minus 65 F.
3.5 Identification marking. The scarifier assembly shall be
identified in accordance with MIL-STD-130.
3.6 Treatment and painting. Portions of the scarifier assembly
and its components and parts normally painted than be cleaned, treated
and painted in accordance with MIL-T-704, type A.
3.7 Identification of hight strength steels. When high strength
steels are used in the fabrication of the scarifier assemblies, the
supplier shall include in the technical publications the identification
and location of these steels, and the necessary precautions to be
takes by the using agency in the field concerning rewelding, repair
and replacement of these steels.
3.8 Repair parts and maintenance tools. such repair parts and
maintenance tools as are specified shall be furnished.
3.9 Type I, for straight-blade dozers and semi-U dozers. Scarifier
assemblies for straight-blade and semi-U dozers shall have a housing
with four bolt holes of the same dimensions as specified for the
mounting brackets in accordance with the tractor size as shown in
figure 1. The base of the housing shall rest on the top side of the
lower bracket. The housing shall withstand all working loads and
forces imposed by the shank without failure, distortion or spreading,
or changing the pitch of the tooth. The housing shall provide a meanS
for locking the hinge pin to prevent its rotation. The housing shall
be constructed to prevent the entrance of soil into the scarifier
assembly. The housing shall accommodate the shank in its working
